Apple Turnover Dumplings

Single recipe – 16 servings

You’ll need these ingredients:

  • 2 large Granny smith apples
  • 2 cans refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 3/4 cup butter (melted)
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 (12 oz) can of Mountain Dew

Steps:

  1. Preheat oven to 350
  2. Grease 9×13 baking pan
  3. Core apples. Peal if desired (tastes just as good with peals and it’s easier). Slice into 8 wedges per apple.
  4. (optional) If desired mix up additional cinnamon & sugar and toss apple slices to lightly coat them – I find mixing them in a gallon Ziploc bag works great.
  5. Separate crescent rolls into triangles. Roll each apple wedge in crescent roll dough, starting with smallest point of the triangle. Pinch the ends to make a pocket. Place in baking dish.
  6. Melt butter. Stir in sugar and cinnamon. Scoop over apple pockets.
  7. Pour can of Mountain Dew all over the dumplings. (note – I find that one can is a little too much for a single recipe. I used one can in a double recipe and they came out perfect)
  8. Bake for 35-45 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Remove turnovers from tray immediately (right out of the oven) and rinse pans as soon as possible, otherwise the turnovers may stick and the sugar hardens on the pan.
  10. Serve warm, with Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream if desired.
